Equipment settings
Several fields on a piece of equipment are chosen from a list rather than typed, and those lists are yours. They live in Settings → Modules → Equipment, which holds five of them: category, group, condition, brand and status.
Each works the same way: open the list, press its Add button, type the value and Save. The new entry appears in the list and is immediately offered on the equipment form.
Category
Section titled “Category”What the unit is — camera, switch, generator, air conditioner. Categories are the classification you report and filter by, so keep them broad enough that a category has more than one unit in it.
Set on the add equipment form, and available as a filter in the equipment table. A category can also be created without leaving the form, through Add Equipment Category.
Units that belong together for your own reasons rather than by what they are — everything at one site, everything on one contract, everything bought in one delivery. A unit has one category and one group, and the two answer different questions.
Condition
Section titled “Condition”What state a unit was found in: Operational, and whatever else your engineers need to be able to report — needs attention, faulty, decommissioned.
Conditions are what the fieldworker picks when they report on a unit, and the most recent one shows as Last checked Condition on the unit’s status card. Keep the list short: a condition nobody can choose between is a condition that gets picked at random.
The manufacturers you deal with, offered in the Brand dropdown on the equipment form. Add Brand on the form itself adds one mid-flow.
Status
Section titled “Status”Where a unit stands administratively — Available, Ready To Deploy, Deployed. Status is set when the unit is created, changes as it is deployed and uninstalled, and every change is kept in the unit’s Status History.
Status is about the unit’s place in your process; condition is about whether it works. A unit can be Deployed and faulty at the same time.
